How a construction CV helped Greg to step up the career ladder

The client

Greg was working as a Mechanical Foreman and was keen to move into a more senior position in the construction sector. Opportunities with his current employer were limited, so he knew that he’d have to look elsewhere for his next role.

The problem

Greg had been working in the same industry for 16 years and had been with the same employer for the last eight. He hadn’t needed a construction CV since he got his first job at the age of 16 and didn’t know where to start with writing one! He had many years’ experience that needed condensing into a professional document that would generate interviews.

The solution

As Greg didn’t have an existing construction CV for me to work from, I arranged an extended consultation with him. During the call, we discussed his career aspirations, his previous roles and responsibilities and his values. Importantly, we also covered his career successes and identified what would set him apart from other candidates applying for the same roles.

The result

I produced a concise, one-page construction CV that summarised Greg’s career, value and leadership skills. His feedback was: “Looks great. Everything looks like it’s been covered. Very happy with that thank you”. Two weeks later he contacted me to say that, following several interviews, he was expecting a formal job offer!
